How to renew your Social Rate with Energía XXI

To renew your social rate you will have to reapply. The regulations state you must provide proof that you meet the necessary requirements to access it. This means you will have to send us all your documentation with your new application.

What is the Social Rate?

The electricity social rate is a discount for people who, having requested it, meet a series of special vulnerability requirements. A specific discount is applied to your bill depending on your situation.

Since Royal Decree (RD) 897/2017 came into force in October 2017, the requirements for benefiting from the Social Rate have changed.

What are these requirements?

  • You must have contracted the voluntary price for small consumers (PVPC) at your habitual residence.
  • In addition, you must comply with the personal, family and income requirements established.

When must I renew my social rate?

Every two years. After your last application. It is currently necessary for every application to be made as though it were a new one.

Energía XXI will inform you of the expiry date of your social rate on each of your bills so that you can keep an eye out for renewal. You will also always be able to check the status of your application.

What discount am I entitled to when I apply for the social rate?

The social rate discounts are:

  • 25% for vulnerable consumers who meet the established requirements. The discount in this case has been increased to 60% until 31/03/2022.
  • 40% for severely vulnerable consumers who meet the established requirements. In this case the discount has been increased to 70% until 31/03/2022.
  • Furthermore, if you are a consumer at risk of social exclusion because you are being cared for by the social services provided by a regional or local authority that pays at least 50% of your bill, you will not have to pay your electricity bill and, in the event of a temporary inability to pay, your electricity supply cannot be interrupted.
