Endesa - Electricity, Gas, People

What is the regulated market and what are its prices?

The regulated tariff VPSC (Voluntary Price for the Small Consumer) is a way to set the electricity price. It was designed and is regulated by the Government. It only affects regulated market customers.

The feature of the VPSC regulated tariff is the way the price of producing electricity is calculated.

How are invoices calculated in the VPSC regulated tariff?

The VPSC system is applied in two ways:

If you already have a smart meter

It is possible to know how many kWh you consume every hour of each day, so you only have to apply the prices communicated by Red Eléctrica Española (the Spanish Grid).

If you do not yet have a smart meter

It is impossible to know how many kWh you consume every hour, so the profile of an average consumer is applied to you (as created by Red Eléctrica Española).

It is foreseen that all households will have a smart meter in 2019.

What possibilities does the VPSC offer you?

In the regulated tariff (PVPC) you will have 2 time bands for the contracted power and 3 time bands for energy consumption:

  1. Contracted power

Peak hours (the least economical): From 8am to 12 midnight.

Flat hours (the cheapest): From 12 midnight to 8am, as well as 24 hours a day during weekends and on national public holidays.

  2. Energy consumed

Peak hours (the least economical): Monday to Friday from 10am to 2pm and 6pm to 10pm.

Standard hours (moderately priced): Monday to Friday from 8am to 10am, 2pm to 6pm and 10 pm to 12 midnight.

Flat hours (the cheapest): From 12 midnight to 8am, as well as 24 hours a day during weekends and on national public holidays.

Clients with Social Rate

If you have the Social Rate, the VPSC tariff is applied with a 25% or 40% discount.

You only have a right to the Social Rate if you comply with these requirements.

What are regulated prices?

In application of Spanish Royal Decree 216/2014 of 28 March the prices of tariffs for customers with a contract in the reference trading company are:

Electricity

Voluntary Price for the Small Consumers (VPSC)

This price is calculated daily by the Spanish Electricity Grid (Red Eléctrica de España – REE) depending on:

  • Market energy prices per hour.
  • Applying the average consumer profile.

The price of electricity can vary every hour, depending on how the electricity market evolves, meaning that it will never be the same on your bill and it is impossible to know beforehand. REE publishes the average consumer profile on its web page.

The prices are published daily  on the REE website.
